Restaurant Review: Lucille's Smokehouse Barbecue
Lucille's Smokehouse Barbecue is a chain that has locations in California, Nevada and Arizona. I have driven past the Temecula location a number of times since it is located in the Promenade Mall parking lot. Every time I smell the smoky barbecue filling the air I tell myself "I gotta try that place", Chris and I finally stopped in for lunch. We got there at opening so you can see the place was pretty empty. It has a large interior with lots of seating and a full bar. which we had to take advantage of.
I ordered their Cucumber Watermelon Martini while Chris ordered a Gentlemen's Old Fashion, they also bring you iced cold water in large mason jars. I have something against drinking from a mason jar, I just don't like it.
After perusing the really large menu we decided to order a half order of their Lucille's Appetizer Platter because it has a little bit of everything to try.
Sweet potato fries, fried green tomatoes, fried okra, riblets, chicken strips, hotlinks, fried pickles and Dixie eggrolls. This half order was huge! I can't even imagine what a full order looks like. This was my first time trying fried green tomatoes, I wasn't really a fan of them. Everything else was pretty tasty. We were stuffed after eating everything but I had already ordered a Cajun Shrimp and Avocado Salad.
I had a few bites and then packed it up to take it home for dinner.
Chris ordered the Southern Fried Chicken, a boneless chicken breast breaded and deep fried, served with pan gravy, garlic mashed potatoes and veggies. The chicken was crispy and the gravy had good flavor. The vegetables were cooked really well and were yummy.
This is one of those places you gotta be hungry to go to, their portions are large. I over heard the people behind us asking their waitress the difference between lunch portion and dinner portion sizes. The waitresses response was "the lunch portion is like a large hill, the dinner portions is the size of a volcano". I would like to go back and try some of their barbecue and they have some sandwiches that sounded pretty good as well. They also have a large variety of southern sides to choose from, you can even choose watermelon slices! Oh yeah they also have complimentary biscuits and apple butter, thank goodness we passed on these, maybe next time.
