Barona Oaks Steakhouse is located inside the Barona casino in Lakeside. My mom, my sister and I decided to try our luck at the casino, when that failed we decided to try our luck at the steakhouse instead. I have heard a lot of good things about this place so I was eager to give it a try. The restaurant is dimly lit and has a nice quiet setting. They have a live piano player giving an old style, upscale ambience. The menus light up when you open them making them easy to read in the dark setting. The menu consists of starters, soups, salads with steak and chop offerings and some seafood selections. Prices are comparable to any fine dining steakhouse.
Almost immediately upon seating we were asked for our drink orders. They have a large wine selection. My mom had a glass of Chardonnay while my sister and I ordered a vodka tonic for her and a dirty martini for myself. We were brought a basket of breads and crackers to start off.
The warm jalapeno bread was especially good. We decided to order the Surf and Turf Carpaccio appetizer and the Lobster Bisque which they split into three bowls. The carpaccio was Filet Mignon and Ahi tuna sliced thin with an olive spread, avocado and pickled shallot.
This was my first time eating carpaccio and it was delicious. My sister said it was some of the best she has eaten and her and her husband frequent some of the nicer restaurants in San Diego often. The Lobster Bisque was very good as well. It was loaded with lobster and potato "cracklins"and was creamy and buttery. The portion for one is pretty large I was glad they split it between the three of us because I was pretty much full before our entrees arrived. My mom ordered the Beef Prime Rib with Baked Potato.
This was the "queen" size but was very large, I can't even imagine how big the king is. Speaking of large pieces of meat. We happened to see a waiter carrying out someone's meal which included the steakhouse special Tomahawk Ribeye. This thing is huge! My sister ordered the Prime Filet Mignon and Baked Potato.
I ordered the Dry Aged USDA Prime Ribeye with Bacon-Cheddar Gratin.
I chose to have mine served with both their Bernaise sauce and their Demi Glace. I recommend the latter, it gave this already tasty and tender steak a little extra yumminess. Everyone agreed that I chose the best. The gratin was absolutely delicious with big pieces of bacon lardon on top. Unfortunately I was only able to enjoy a few bites because I was already full but I packed it up to go and my husband enjoyed it as well. He said it was probably one of the best steaks he has had in awhile.
The waitress brought the dessert cart around and although everything was tempting we decided against dessert since we had already stuffed ourselves. For us, this place lived up to all the positive things we had heard said about it. Even if you are not a casino goer I would suggest you visit Barona Oak Steakhouse just to enjoy the food. Who knows you may decide to drop a couple dollars on a slot machine and get lucky on the casino floor as well.
